Local Hero subscribes to standards of editorial independence adopted by the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN). This publication proud to be is the First Amendment Foundation of Ventura County’s first-ever grantee. Folks interested in supporting and sustaining this work can make a donation here.
Editorial Independence Policy
Local Hero maintains a barrier between coverage decisions and sources of revenue. Subscriber and/or donor support does not constitute implied or actual endorsement of donors or their products, services or opinions.
Local Hero accepts gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals and organizations for the general support of this work, but news judgments are made independently and not based on donor or subscriber support.
Local Hero may consider donations to support the coverage of particular topics, but founder and author Andra Belknap maintains complete editorial control.
Local Hero will make public (on this page) all donors and/or subscribers who give a total of $2,500 or more per year.
